Josue

Mexico

Chef

My name is Josue and I am originally from Tabasco, Mexico. I am here on asylum as a victim of serious physical violence.

I am going to school but I also have a job as a cook at Facebook. I love cooking. My attorney helped me get social security and permission to work. I started just preparing food and after a year of working in the kitchen, I became a chef.

Right now I am in a community college. A local non-profit found me when I was studying English at an adult after school program and they gave me a scholarship. They also tutor me, they pay for my books and they gave me a voucher for food.

The new immigration policies worry me. The rules for immigrants are changing everyday. But for now, I just keep in my mind on my work, my goals and my dreams to be the best chef I can be.
